The Georgian Lari (GEL) is the official currency of Georgia, issued by the National Bank of Georgia. It was introduced in 1995, replacing the Georgian Coupon as part of post-Soviet economic reforms. The lari is a free-floating currency, and its value is influenced by Georgia’s economic growth, trade relations, and foreign investment. The lari is subdivided into 100 tetri, with banknotes ranging from ₾5 to ₾200 and coins from 1 tetri to ₾2. Georgia has a growing tourism and technology sector, contributing to the lari’s relative stability.
