The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the official currency of Indonesia, introduced in 1946 to replace the Dutch East Indies gulden. The rupiah, issued by Bank Indonesia, is known for its high denominations due to inflation. Coins and banknotes are widely used, with the latter available in values up to 100,000 IDR. The currency is a free-floating one, often fluctuating against the US dollar. Despite economic volatility, the rupiah remains a crucial part of Indonesia’s large and diverse economy, which is one of the largest in Southeast Asia.
