The Surinamese Dollar (SRD) is the official currency of Suriname, a country in South America. It was introduced in 2004, replacing the Surinamese Guilder at a rate of 1,000:1. The currency is issued and regulated by the Central Bank of Suriname. Suriname’s economy is largely dependent on natural resources such as gold, oil, and bauxite, and the value of the SRD is influenced by global commodity prices. Inflation and currency depreciation have been ongoing challenges, leading to fluctuations in the exchange rate. Despite economic difficulties, the SRD remains the primary medium of exchange within Suriname.
