The Salvadoran Colón (SVC) was the national currency of El Salvador from 1892 until 2001, when it was officially replaced by the US dollar as part of a dollarization effort aimed at stabilizing the economy and encouraging investment. The colón was issued by the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador in both coins and banknotes. While it is no longer in circulation, some older citizens still reference prices in colóns, though all transactions in El Salvador are now conducted in US dollars.
