The Vietnamese Dong is the official currency of Vietnam, symbolized by "₫" and issued by the State Bank of Vietnam. First introduced in 1978 following the reunification of North and South Vietnam, the dong has undergone several redenominations. Although inflation has resulted in high-denomination notes, the dong is an important symbol of Vietnam’s growing economy, especially in agriculture and manufacturing.
